Lito Dictionary ("we", "our", or "us") is dedicated to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Lito Dictionary operates, how we handle user data, and how we respect your privacy while you use our Chrome Extension.

1. Overview and Core Philosophy

Lito Dictionary is designed as a lightweight, user-focused dictionary lookup tool. Our primary service is to provide English word definitions and related linguistic details using the Merriam-Webster API. We strongly believe in data minimization: we do not collect, store, track, sell, or monetize any of your personal information.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

When using Lito Dictionary:

• No Personal Data: We do not collect names, email addresses, IP addresses, browsing histories, account credentials, or payment details.
• No Browsing Activity Tracking: We do not track or log the websites you visit or your browsing activity outside of the word lookups you explicitly initiate.
• No Analytics or Cookies: We do not embed behavioral analytics, tracking beacons, advertising cookies, or third-party tracking scripts.

3. How Data Is Handled

• Word Lookups: When you select a word or type a query into the extension, the searched word is sent directly to the Merriam-Webster dictionary service/API to retrieve definitions, examples, and pronunciation data. These queries are strictly used in real time to fetch and display the definitions.
• Local Storage: Any user preferences (such as light/dark mode settings or UI state) are stored purely locally within your browser using the Chrome Storage API and never leave your device.

4. Chrome Permissions Justification

Lito Dictionary requests only the minimal set of browser permissions strictly necessary for its functionality:

• contextMenus: Used exclusively to add a right-click option to your context menu, enabling you to select any word on a webpage and look up its definition directly in Lito Dictionary.
• Host Permissions (Dictionary API): Used solely to send lookup requests to dictionary API endpoints (such as Merriam-Webster) to retrieve definitions and display them inside the extension interface.

5. Third-Party Services

Lito Dictionary retrieves definitions via the Merriam-Webster API. By using the lookup function, the searched term is processed according to the relevant API provider's standard network requests. We encourage users to review the privacy policies of third-party API providers if they wish to understand how standard web queries are processed on their end.

6. Children's Privacy

Lito Dictionary does not knowingly collect or solicit any personal information from children or anyone else.
