OptiTranslate ("the app", "we", "us") is a menu-bar translator for macOS. This Privacy Policy explains what happens with your data when you use the app. Plain summary: we don't collect, store, or sell anything about you.
None. OptiTranslate does not include analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, advertising SDKs, fingerprinting, or any other form of data collection performed by us. We do not have servers and we do not have user accounts. We never see what you type, paste, dictate, capture, or translate.
To translate text, the app sends your input text to one translation provider that you select inside the app:
translate.googleapis.com) — see Google's Privacy Policy.api.deepl.com or api-free.deepl.com) — see DeepL's Privacy Policy.Only the text you actively want translated, plus the source/target language codes, is sent to the selected provider. The request is initiated only when you type, paste, dictate, or capture text into the app. We do not add any identifiers, device data, or metadata. After the translated response is returned to your Mac, no copy of your text remains on our side because we have no servers.
The language pair you last used, your selected provider, and your last 10 translations (for your local history) are stored locally on your Mac in UserDefaults (a standard macOS preferences store) so the app remembers your choices between launches. This data never leaves your device.
If you use the voice-input feature:
The app declares the standard macOS permission strings NSMicrophoneUsageDescription and NSSpeechRecognitionUsageDescription. You will be asked for permission the first time you press the microphone button. You can revoke these permissions at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
If you use the screenshot-to-translate feature:
/usr/sbin/screencapture), which behaves exactly like the system shortcut Control+Shift+Cmd+4. macOS, not the app, manages the area selection UI.
