Summary
Story Link for Jira ("the extension") does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any user data with the developer or any third party. All data handled by the extension stays on the user's device and is exchanged only directly between the user's browser and their own Jira Server/Data Center instance.
What the extension accesses
- Jira issue content (issue key, summary, epic link, sprint, issue type, status, and matching User Story candidates). The extension reads this content to build the story picker and to create the issue link the user explicitly requests via the standard Jira REST API (
/rest/api/2/issueLink). This content never leaves the user's browser except to communicate directly with the Jira server the user configured.
- Jira session cookie. The extension relies on the user's existing authenticated browser session with their Jira instance (
credentials: 'include') to make API requests on the user's behalf. The extension does not read, store, or transmit the cookie value itself — it is attached automatically by the browser.
What the extension stores locally
Using the chrome.storage.local / chrome.storage.sync API (data stored only on the user's device or synced via the user's own Chrome profile, never sent to the developer):
- The configured Jira base URL.
- The chosen link type and direction, and which surfaces (issue page, kanban board, issue navigator) show the link button.
- Which issue types count as a User Story.
- A short log of links created by the extension (source, target, link id) so the user can Undo them.
- A 5-minute local cache of story candidates, to avoid repeat lookups on the same issue.
- Diagnostic flags (which DOM selector matched on the last visited page), used only to power the popup's Diagnostics panel.
This data is never transmitted to the developer or any third party. It can be cleared at any time by removing the extension or clearing its storage in chrome://extensions.
Data sale, sharing, and use
- We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties.
- We do not use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to the extension's core functionality (linking a Jira issue to a User Story).
- We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
- We do not collect analytics, telemetry, or personally identifiable information.
