HighlightPro helps users highlight text on web pages and PDFs, organize highlights into folders, add notes, restore highlights when revisiting pages, generate simple citations, and export a research report. All core functionality runs locally in the user’s browser.
HighlightPro stores the following only on the user’s device using Chrome’s local storage (chrome.storage.local):
We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of this data with any server or third party.
There is no account system, no analytics, no tracking, and no remote backend in the current version of the extension.
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| storage | Save highlights, folders, notes, and preference data on the device. |
| activeTab | Access the current tab when the user interacts with the extension (context menu or shortcut). |
| contextMenus | Show highlight and citation options in the right-click menu. |
| Host access | Show the highlighter toolbar and restore saved highlights on pages the user chooses to research. Only user-selected text and page metadata are stored locally. |
The optional “Buy Pro” button may open a third-party checkout page (Lemon Squeezy). That page is operated by the payment provider and is subject to their privacy policy. HighlightPro does not receive payment card data.
HighlightPro is suitable for students. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. All research data stays on the device.
