remember.ly is designed with a privacy-first, local-only philosophy. Your personal data, browsing history, and saved memories remain on your device and are never sold, transferred, or harvested.

1. Data Collection and Storage

• On-Device Storage: All captured pages, articles, notes, tags, summaries, and search indices are stored exclusively within your local browser storage (IndexedDB / Origin Private File System).
• No Telemetry or Remote Servers: remember.ly operates without remote backend servers or user analytics tracking. We do not collect personally identifiable information (PII), analytics, or telemetry.

2. Permissions & Data Handling

• Website Content & Active Tab: When you explicitly choose to save a page (via shortcut Alt+Shift+S or right-click context menu), remember.ly extracts the page title, URL, and readable text to store in your on-device vault.
• Authentication & API Keys: If you choose to configure custom AI providers (such as OpenAI or ChatGPT), credentials and API tokens are stored strictly within your browser's private local storage and are only transmitted directly to the respective API endpoint to fulfill your search/ask requests.

3. Third-Party Services

• By default, search and embeddings run 100% locally on your machine using bundled WebAssembly (WASM).
• If you optionally enable remote LLM features (OpenAI / ChatGPT), prompts are sent directly from your browser to OpenAI's API. No intermediate proxy or third-party servers are used.

4. Data Retention & Deletion

You maintain complete control over your data. You can delete individual memories or export/erase your entire memory vault at any time via the extension's Library and Settings pages.
