Impact on Design
Database Strategy
Objective:
Design a small, automated vertical micro-farm optimized for measurable efficiency and modular scalability, integrating mechanical structure, fluid circulation, and sensor-driven automation. Deliverables will include CAD models, system diagrams, functional simulations, and a polished portfolio entry.
Strategic Concept & System Goal Definition
Focus: Move beyond generic design; define measurable targets that guide every downstream decision.
Tasks:
- Define performance metrics: Choose 1–2 quantifiable objectives, e.g.,
- Water use efficiency (liters/day per tray)
- Light coverage uniformity (lux across trays)
- Energy consumption (kWh/day)
- Research & benchmark: Review small-scale vertical farms; extract data for baseline metrics.
- System block diagram: Map mechanical components, fluid flow, sensors, and automation loops, annotated with your chosen performance goals.
- Component list: Include pumps, pipes, trays, lighting, and sensors, with preliminary sizing based on benchmarks.
Deliverable:
- 1–2 annotated block diagrams showing system integration and key metrics.
- Defined project goal with measurable targets for efficiency, yield, or automation.
