The Secondary Official supports plays outside their primary coverage area. Sometimes, officials will not have action areas in their primary coverage area. In these instances, officials can stretch their coverage and assist the other officials as a secondary official.

Officiating focus:

• Help when needed
  • Allow the primary official to have the first opportunity to call the play if it is in their PCA
• Use a cadence whistle only on obvious plays
