Being a senior AI engineer at Usawa

A senior AI engineer at Usawa strategizes and leads the development of the AI systems that support Usawa’s clinical workflows. You will design, build, evaluate, and improve AI agents used in healthcare contexts, combining LLM-based systems and machine learning techniques to create AI systems that support simple, reliable and tasteful product experiences.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone with strong AI engineering skills and good product judgment. A strong candidate is comfortable building across a diverse stack, while being able to adapt as the company matures.

You will be developing and exploring novel ideas, mainly with applied AI (LLM-based) but you are expected to lead the development and training of the next step of Usawa’s custom AI/ML features.

Any projects, blog posts, or other demonstrations of great technical skills, curiosity, and creativity are taken into high consideration. We are looking for people outside the norm who can define the future of AI in healthcare.

Technical skills:

• Experience building AI/LLM-based products or systems.
  • Applied AI/ML is the focus but technical expertise in the underlying mathematics and training processes is clearly a plus.
• Experience with prompt engineering, evaluation, observability, and agent workflows.
• Top-notch software engineering skills.
• Experience designing reliable AI systems in production.
• Ability to work with data, metrics, and evaluation pipelines.
• Has experience leading technical teams.

(Our tech stack is relevant but should not be the most important factor for the person we are looking for. With this said, a brief overview or our tech stack is: Python for the backend (with FastAPI); PostgreSQL for the database; Azure and CGP as our AI providers and where training will, probably, happen)

• Is on top of the latest and greatest AI developments and eager to experiment with them hands-on.
• Cares deeply about what they are building.
• Wants to build things properly, even when that means rethinking or rebuilding something.
