About the role

As Odin grows, we are hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to build and improve the shared systems our products and engineers depend on. You will work across cloud infrastructure, deployment systems, backend services, and field devices to make the product more reliable and help engineering teams ship safely and quickly.

This is a hands-on internal product role. Product engineers are your customers, and success means they can build, ship, and operate applications without solving the underlying infrastructure, delivery, and device problems for themselves. You will shape and lead platform projects that turn those recurring needs into reliable shared capabilities, contribute directly in code and infrastructure, and own what each project delivers through production.

What you will do

• Shape and lead platform projects from a defined problem through production. Clarify the outcome, compare approaches, surface risks, and turn the work into a plan other engineers can contribute to.
• Design, build, and operate shared infrastructure and services, managing infrastructure as code with the same review and quality discipline as application code.
• Improve continuous integration, deployment, environment management, and self-service tooling so product engineers can deliver changes safely without solving the same platform problems themselves.
• Build observability that makes system health and failure modes clear. Set useful measures, tune alerts for signal, and use production behavior to guide improvements.
• Operate what you build. Participate in the on-call rotation, lead the resolution of critical incidents in your area, and turn what the team learns into changes that reduce the chance or impact of recurrence.
• Improve how Odin provisions, operates, updates, and supports dedicated fleets of Zebra rugged Android devices, iPads, and iPhones. Design for reliable installation, replacement, and recovery when those devices are deployed with physical access systems such as turnstiles and vehicle gates.
• Help design and build Odin's next generation of edge systems, including Odin-owned controllers that connect third-party cameras and access-control readers to the platform.
• Write documentation and runbooks that let other engineers operate and extend the systems without depending on you, and automate recurring operational work.
• Help engineers grow through thoughtful reviews, technical writing, pairing, incident response, and direct feedback. Give project contributors meaningful ownership and the context they need to succeed.
• Build first-hand knowledge of how Odin's customers work. Visit jobsites, sit with workers and security teams, and watch the product in use in a guard booth or trailer. Carry that understanding into the platform tradeoffs you make.

What we are looking for

• You have owned a substantial infrastructure or platform project from problem definition and technical design through rollout and production operation.
• You have led engineers through project delivery. You can explain how you divided the work, kept decisions and risks visible, and ensured the pieces became one dependable result.
• You bring deep experience in at least two of cloud infrastructure, delivery and operations, backend development, and production device management, with enough range to work effectively across the others.
• You have managed production infrastructure as code and can explain the review, testing, rollout, and recovery practices that kept changes safe.
• You write production backend code in a modern TypeScript ecosystem and are prepared to remain hands-on in this role.
• You have operated, supported, or built systems around production field devices that require installation, replacement, updates, and troubleshooting outside controlled environments.
• You have defined observability and reliability measures, diagnosed complex production failures, and improved a system after learning how it failed.
• You treat engineering teams as customers. You have improved a shared platform or developer workflow based on how engineers actually use it, not only on what the underlying technology can do.
• You make technical decisions by comparing real alternatives across reliability, security, cost, delivery speed, and operational complexity. You can explain the choice clearly and change course when new evidence warrants it.
• You help engineers around you become more capable. Your reviews, explanations, and feedback give people judgment they can reuse rather than instructions they can follow only once.
• You communicate clearly in writing and conversation. Your technical plans, runbooks, incident updates, and tradeoff discussions leave people able to act.
• You use AI to accelerate your engineering without outsourcing your judgment. You understand, test, and refine the work it helps produce, and you answer for the code you ship.

Nice to have

• Experience with construction technology, access control, workforce management, or other software and hardware used on a jobsite.
• Experience at an early-stage startup where you helped establish platform practices while continuing to ship production work.
• Experience operating badge readers, access control panels, kiosks, cameras, turnstiles, or other connected-device fleets at production volume.
• Experience building and operating video-streaming services and computer-vision pipelines in production.
• Experience using Postgres for high-volume event data, including query tuning and safe schema changes on heavily used tables.
• Experience improving cloud infrastructure cost without compromising reliability or delivery speed.
