If you are brand new to making a custom level map, or even to the Toolkit, you will not have most windows accessible from the get go. Additionally, if you do not have a layout saved, any windows opened during a session in TK will vanish, and need you re-open them again. This can be a bit of a pain, especially if the TK crashes on you during a session.

On initial startup, once getting into your map, you will see something like the following:

These windows highlighted in green can be dragged and moved around your screen to your preference:

When you pop out a window, you will see these directional arrows:

From here, you can drag a window into one of these areas.

When dragging the Message Log window to the right, we’ll see an even smaller directional pad. Here, if we hover over the bottom arrow, we will be able to the Message Log below the Preview panel, and turn it into a split view.

Now, if you don’t establish a layout, you will have missing panels that are crucial for mapmaking. Such as Terrain Panel, Resource Manager, Interaction Mode Options, and Root Templates.

Let’s add those in!

Your Terrain Panel can be found here:

Clicking on this button will cause the Terrain Panel to appear:

At this point, you can place the Terrain Panel wherever you. Again, its all personal preference.

Now to add Root Templates:
