Shopmate ("the App", "we", "us") is a Shopify app that adds an AI-powered chat widget to a merchant's storefront. This policy explains what data the App collects, why, and how it is handled, for both the merchants who install Shopmate and the shoppers who use the chat widget on their stores.
1. Who this applies to
- Merchants: stores that install Shopmate from the Shopify App Store.
- Shoppers: visitors to a merchant's storefront who interact with the chat widget, whether logged in as a customer or browsing as a guest.
2. Information we collect
From merchants / their store (via the Shopify API)
When a merchant installs Shopmate and grants the requested access scopes, we access and store:
- Store information: shop domain, store name, and install date.
- Products: title, handle, status, vendor, product type, tags, price, currency, inventory, images, and variant options — synced so the chat assistant can answer product questions accurately.
- Store policies: the text of legal/policy pages (e.g. refund, privacy, shipping policies) you've published — synced so the assistant can answer policy questions using your own wording rather than guessing.
- Theme access: used only to let the chat widget block be added to your storefront theme; we do not read or store other theme content.
- Uploaded files: if you upload a custom launcher icon in the app's settings, that image is stored via Shopify's file storage.
We do not access order history, payment details, or discount codes — the App does not request those scopes.
From shoppers using the chat widget
- Chat messages: the content of messages sent to and received from the assistant, stored together as a chat session.
- Conversation ID: an identifier for the chat session (used to maintain conversation context).
- Customer ID: if the shopper is logged in to the store, we store Shopify's numeric customer ID alongside their chat session so a merchant can, on request, identify which conversations belong to which customer. Guest shoppers are not linked to any customer identity — only their messages and session ID are stored.
We do not collect shopper names, emails, addresses, or payment information directly — any such information is only present if a shopper voluntarily types it into a chat message.
