Getting started

Slingword has no sign-up and no login. Open the app and you are in.

  1. Choose a display name and an avatar. This is the name the other person sees.
  2. Choose the country you are in, the language you are studying, and your current level.
  3. Choose whether you are teaching or learning. It does not lock you in — roles are not fixed, and anyone can both send and receive words.
  4. Create an invite code and hand it to the other person, or enter the code you received.
  5. Decide whether to turn on vocabulary sync. It is off by default.

You can skip the invite step with Connect later. Using the app alone without any connection works fine, and you can connect at any time from Settings.

How do I connect with someone?

One person creates an invite code, the other enters it.

  1. Go to Settings → My invite code, create the code, and send it to the other person.
  2. They enter it under Settings → Enter an invite code.
  3. Once connected, you can send words to each other.

An invite code is single use. Create a new one for each new person.

You can be connected to several people at once — one teacher with many students, or one student with many teachers.
