Perimeter and Challenges for the Trail Official
Jump Shots and Point of Contact
Trail officials often struggle with:
- Getting stacked on jump shots
- Missing points of contact (hand to elbow, grazes on the shooting arm for perimeter shots)
To improve:
- Position adjust early when a shooter is in your area
- Anticipate a shot attempt, especially if the team has a player who can shoot
- Establish an open angle before the shot begins
Focus on:
- The shooter’s feet (Is it a 2-point or 3-point attempt)
- Defender’s contact on the shooter
- Remember the sequences:
- Foot - Line - Defender
- Up - Down - Rebound
