This sublesson focuses on using your influence to build others and strengthen the team.

Recognizing Value in Others

Great leaders recognize the value in other people. Leadership is not about being the best, but is rather about helping other people become better.

• Continually invest in others to develop new leaders
• Contribute to the pre-game and help your partners succeed
• Build others up instead of focusing only on yourself

Have candor:

• Be honest in a respectful and constructive way
• Help others grow through feedback and support

Investing in Others and Yourself

You should constantly work to develop yourself as well as others. This includes:

• Sharing knowledge with your partners / organization
• Offering support to others
• Providing encouragement to new officials

Avoid selfish tendencies:

• Don’t withhold information
• Don’t compete with your partners
