The Two Phases of Cancellation Recovery

  1. Before they cancel: intercept the cancellation and save it in real time
  2. After they cancel: win them back through email flows </aside>

Phase 1: Before They Cancel

Use https://skio.com/ for your cancellation flow.

The cancellation flow lives inside your subscription platform not in Klaviyo. Use Skio, it lets you intercept the cancellation before it processes and present tailored offers based on why the person says they are leaving.

Step 1: The video

Before they can cancel they see a short video from the founder. Why are you doing this, what to expect, what they are giving up by leaving, how close they are to seeing real results. This alone saves a significant percentage of cancellations.

Step 2: The reason survey

Ask them why they are cancelling. Their answer determines what offer they see next. Never give everyone the same offer - tailor it to the reason.

Step 3: The tailored offer based on cancellation reason

What Happens When They Cancel Anyway

If they decline the offer and cancel regardless they see a feedback survey - "How can we improve?" They select their reasons and submit.

After submitting they are automatically added into the Subscription Win-Back Flow (Phase 2): 60-90 days later you reach back out with a stronger offer based on the reason they gave in the feedback survey.

Phase 2: After They Cancel

The Immediate Cancellation Flow (1-2 emails)

Send immediately after cancellation. Text-based, simple, short.

Split based on what they said in the cancellation survey, their reason for leaving determines what you say and what you offer.

Email 1 — The offer to come back:

Email 2 — Final urgency (optional):

The Subscription Win-Back Flow (60-90 days after cancellation)

After 60-90 days reach back out to cancelled subscribers with a stronger offer than what you gave them in the immediate cancellation flow.
