Frequently asked questions
Getting started
- What does Idiom Highway do? It teaches English idioms and phrasal verbs while you drive. Billboards along the road teach an idiom with its meaning and an example; a few seconds later a three-lane gate asks you to steer into the lane with the right meaning. A spaced-repetition engine brings each idiom back right before you'd forget it, and what you master becomes a card in your album.
- Do I need an account? No. There is no sign-up and no login. Everything is stored on your device.
- How long is a drive? About 60-90 seconds. Each city has 6 drives and 18 idioms.
- Which devices are supported? iPhone and iPad, both optimized, on iOS 17 or later. The app is portrait-only by design — it is meant to be played one-handed.
- What languages is it available in? The app's interface is available in English, Turkish, German, Spanish (Mexico) and Portuguese (Brazil). The idiom content itself is in English — meanings and examples are written in simple English, which is intentional: you learn the idiom in the language you're learning. Meanings in your own language are not available yet.
- Do I need an internet connection? No. The whole game — driving, learning, your progress — works fully offline. You only need a connection to make or restore a purchase.
Learning
- What happens if I get one wrong? You hit a barrier, the correct answer flashes on the spot, and the drive continues. There is no game over. The idiom drops to the first review box, so it comes back in a later drive until you've got it.
- Why did the same idiom come back? That's the spaced-repetition engine doing its job — it reschedules each idiom just before you'd be likely to forget it. Idioms you answer correctly come back less and less often.
- What do bronze, silver and gold mean on a card? How well you've mastered that idiom. Repeatedly correct answers move a card up the tiers.
- Can I hear how an idiom is pronounced? Yes — open a card in the album and tap the speaker button. It uses your device's built-in speech, so there's no download and it works offline.
Fuel, coins and the garage
- What is fuel? Each drive costs one fuel. Free players get a daily refill; Premium removes the limit.
- What are coins for? Cosmetics only — cars, paint colours, trail effects in the garage. Nothing in the garage affects learning or difficulty, so you can never fall behind by not buying one.
Purchases
- What's free and what needs Premium? City 1 is free forever — all 18 idioms, all 6 drives — plus a daily fuel allowance, the full album and the garage. Premium unlocks Cities 2-12, removes the fuel limit and doubles coin earnings. We don't restate prices here so they never drift — the App always shows the price for your region.
