Mosquito Off lets you start a sound within three seconds of opening the app. It plays a high-frequency tone between 15 kHz and 22 kHz through your phone’s speaker.
Q. Does this really get rid of mosquitoes? The effectiveness of sound frequencies for repelling mosquitoes has not been scientifically established. Results may vary. This app is intended for experimental and entertainment purposes and is not a substitute for proven mosquito protection methods. Try the different frequencies and see for yourself.
Q. I can’t hear anything. That can be normal. Frequencies above 18 kHz are often inaudible depending on your age and individual hearing, and phone speakers themselves are weak in the high range. If the “playing” indicator and the remaining time are running on screen, playback is working. Choose a lower frequency (15–16 kHz) if you want to confirm it by ear.
Q. Does the sound stop when I lock the screen? No. Background playback is supported, so it keeps playing while the screen is locked or while you use another app.
Q. Can I use it while listening to music? Yes. The app does not interrupt audio from other apps.
Q. What happens when a call comes in? Playback pauses automatically during the call and resumes when the call ends.
Q. Does it drain the battery? It’s audio playback with the screen off, so the drain is small. If leaving it on overnight concerns you, set a 30-minute to 2-hour timer.
Q. What volume should I use? Set it to a comfortable level. The app never changes your system volume on its own. Avoid listening at high volume for extended periods. Stop using the app if the sound causes discomfort.
