Archived concept precursor. The inquiry-first idea on this page was later consolidated into AI Apprenticeship — Before AI Becomes an Actor.

Concept lineage · Inquiry-first AI · Preserved for research history, not treated as the current working model

This page captures an earlier formulation that started from one question: what should AI learn about a human system before it is allowed to act inside it?

Before AI becomes an actor, it should first become an observer.

Origin of the idea

The first idea was still unclear: AI should not act inside a human system too early. It should first observe how the system actually works.

In discussion with ChatGPT, two clarifying questions appeared:

  1. If AI becomes an observer, how do we make sure it does not become another invisible camera?
  2. Are we talking about putting an already pretrained model into a system to observe people?

The second question clarified the real direction.

The idea is not mainly about a powerful pretrained model entering a system and quietly watching everyone.

The stronger idea is about a model that begins with very little, enters a living system as a learner, and learns to ask before it acts.

Core thesis

A pretrained model enters a system with answers.

A system-born model enters a system with questions.

The problem is not only how to control AI after it enters a system.

The problem starts earlier:

What kind of AI are we allowing to enter the system in the first place?

The key distinction
