The Bourbon Standard ("TBS," "the app") is built so that almost everything you do in it stays on your own device. This page explains exactly what data exists, where it lives, and the few cases where anything leaves your phone.
Your bottle collection, want list, recipes, distillery passport stamps, tasting notes, and profile settings are stored locally on your device only, using on-device storage. None of this is sent to TBS or any third party by default. If you delete the app, this data is gone unless you've used the Backup & Restore feature to export a copy yourself.
TBS asks for camera and photo library access so you can photograph a bottle for your collection, scan a label, or set a profile photo. Photos you take are stored on your device with your collection data and are not uploaded anywhere by TBS.
If you enable notifications, TBS uses them to remind you about allocation calendar release windows and to send a weekly digest about items on your want list. Notifications are scheduled and delivered through your device's operating system; TBS does not use a third-party push notification service.
TBS includes an opt-in feature that lets you contribute the price you paid for a bottle to a shared community pricing database, to help other users see real-world pricing trends. This is off by default. If you turn it on, the bottle name, distillery, price, and your general region are shared — never your name, email, or any other personal identifier. You can turn this off at any time in Settings, and doing so stops any future sharing.
TBS links out to third-party retailers, auction sites, tour booking platforms, and barrel/cask investment companies (for example, retailers for buying bottles, secondary-market and auction sites, Viator and GetYourGuide for distillery tours, and CaskX/Vinovest for barrel investing). Some of these links are affiliate links, meaning TBS may earn a commission if you make a purchase — this never changes the price you pay. Once you tap one of these links, you leave TBS and that company's own privacy policy applies, not this one.
TBS is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under the legal drinking age in their location.
Since your data lives on your device, you can delete it at any time by deleting the app, or by removing individual bottles, recipes, or wishlist items within the app. If you've opted into community price sharing, contact us (below) to request removal of previously shared entries.
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change with it.
