Why a Persona-Based Pass First

The platform serves two modes — discovery-oriented cultural explorers and research-oriented art professionals — and the open question was whether the dual-navigation architecture performs for both. Before investing in live recruitment, a structured walkthrough using the two established personas was a cheap, fast way to surface the highest-severity issues and decide what to fix before testing with real users. It is a pre-recruitment filter, not a substitute for live testing.

Objectives

  1. Check whether first-time users can orient and grasp the artist's significance within ~2 minutes of landing on the homepage.
  2. Check whether the dual-navigation model (Discovery vs. Archive mode) is discoverable and usable for both persona types.
  3. Surface friction in the Works Archive filter and browse experience.
  4. Assess whether the Motifs section successfully explains conceptual repetition.
  5. Pressure-test tone — does it read as reflective without tipping into promotional?

Persona Passes

Rather than recruited participants, the walkthrough ran each task through the two personas, varying the emphasis to cover a realistic range within each.

Maya — Discovery-oriented cultural explorer (visual/emotional first; needs the work to move her before explanation)
