Verba is a spoken vocabulary trainer. It is built to collect as little about you as possible and to keep the most sensitive part, your voice, on your device. This policy explains what the app handles and why.
Every spoken step is transcribed on your device using Apple's on-device speech recognition. Your audio is never sent to Verba, never saved by Verba, and never shared with anyone else. The microphone is active only while you hold the button, and the transcript is used to check your answer and then discarded.
One exception exists so that rare words are not unfairly rejected: if on-device recognition cannot make out what you said, Verba may send that one short clip to Apple's speech recognition service for a second attempt. Apple processes it under Apple's own privacy terms. Verba itself never receives, stores, or keeps any audio.
When an answer is close but not clear-cut, Verba sends the text of what it heard (or what you typed), together with the target word and its definition, to its own grading service to decide whether it counts. The grading service may use a third-party AI model provider to reach that verdict. This is text only: never audio, and never anything that identifies you beyond your account identifier. Verba does not store the text after the verdict is returned.
No account is required. You can use every part of Verba without signing in, and your progress then lives only on your device. If you choose Sign in with Apple, your progress is backed up so it survives losing or switching phones. Verba requests no name or email from Apple, only the anonymous identifier Apple provides to link your account.
Verba stores your learning progress: the words you have practiced, your session and step completion, your streaks, your chosen alarm times, and the timing of completed steps. This is kept on your device and, when you are signed in, backed up to our hosted database (Supabase), tied to your account identifier. It is not sold, rented, or shared, and it is not used for advertising.
If you send feedback from Settings, we store your rating and comment so we can improve the app. If you are signed in, the feedback is linked to your account identifier; otherwise it is anonymous.
Verba's practice sessions ring as alarms at times you choose. Alarms and their follow-up reminders are scheduled locally on your device. Verba does not run a marketing or push-notification service.
Verba's subscription is billed by Apple through your Apple ID. Apple handles all payment information under its own privacy terms; Verba never sees your payment details.
Verba contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics trackers, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. It does not build an advertising profile of you.
