Sanja Gertrude was born in Munich, Germany, on September 2, 2001. She grew up as an only child in a warm and loving family. Her father, Erik Wilhelm Gertrude, was a history lecturer, and her mother, Helena Gertrude, worked as an art restorer in a small museum in Munich. Since she was a child, Sanja was surrounded by books, old paintings, and stories about the past.
Her parents treated her with full care and attention. She never felt alone, even as an only child. Every evening, her father would tell her stories about ancient civilizations, while her mother would show her sketches of restored artworks.
“Do you think the past is still alive?” Sanja once asked her father.
Her father smiled and answered, “It is alive in the things we choose to remember.”
Those words stayed in her heart as she grew older.
Sanja later studied archaeology at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. She chose this field because she wanted to understand human history directly from the ground, not just from books. During her studies, she was known as a quiet but very focused student. She enjoyed fieldwork more than classroom lectures.
After graduating, Sanja began working as an archaeologist in Cairo, Egypt, joining an international excavation project near the ancient ruins along the Nile River. The hot desert and long working hours were not easy, but she felt excited every time she discovered something new.
One day at the excavation site, her team leader said, “You always look calm, even when the work is hard,” Sanja smiled slightly and replied, “Because I feel like I am getting closer to people from the past.”
Even though she now lives far from Munich, she still carries her family’s love and memories with her. It gives her strength to continue her work and stay passionate about uncovering forgotten history.
