Symbolication / Back Tracer
Brief updates on active work streams. Read ahead — we'll keep these quick.
Progress toward 3-stage build model (stage0: compiler, stage1: runtime + recompiled compiler, stage2: distribution compiler). Regression from last cycle still exists — SPM is the core of the issue. Progress: LLDB and Swift test suites are now passing, as they don't rely on SPM. One outstanding LLDB test failure related to path lengths remains; Leonard confirmed this can be xfailed and shouldn't block.
Build times are a growing concern. A single change now percolates through all 3 build stages, and even cached builds take ~1–1.5h for packaging. Full builds run ~2.25h locally. On CI, PR build times are hitting ~10 hours. Null builds are not being vacuously fulfilled due to CMake re-triggering linking; CAS alone can't save us here.
Separately, significant progress on long path issues — Saleem has been intentionally keeping longer path names to flush out remaining bugs. File count limits are now resolved in swift-driver. Moving toward canonical paths and removing S:\b\5 / S:\b\1 shortcuts.
Remains the primary blocker for COM/WinRT and DLL-ification work streams.
