Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company 由 Frank A. Seiberling 於 1898 年在 East Akron, Ohio 創立，最初僅13名員工。原書時點公司年銷售接近 US$16bn，約 69,000 employees、在 23 countries擁有50+ production facilities；2009 年生產約 167m tyres，產品銷售至185+ countries。
1999 年 Goodyear 與 Sumitomo Rubber Industries 建立約 US$1bn global alliance，在 Europe、Japan、North America形成六個joint ventures。跨國規模也使公司必須面對不同國家法律、環境、勞工與倫理標準不一致的問題。
對全球企業而言，「符合法律最低要求」不足以建立一致的corporate responsibility。不同countries在workplace safety、environment、labour rights等規範強度差異很大；若各地只遵守local minimum，global brand可能承擔reputational與operational risk。
Goodyear自 1915 年即以「Protect Our Good Name」作為核心原則，要求對customers、associates、shareholders、suppliers與communities維持responsible conduct。公司建立自己的 global Environmental, Health and Safety（EHS）standards，在部分情況下高於當地法律要求。
Global EHS principles被進一步轉成 Goodyear Business Conduct Manual，發給所有associates並要求遵守；內容涵蓋workforce、workplace與environment等倫理行為。
Goodyear以 3-R Principle：reduction、reuse、recycling 管理waste。原書指出2007年58座plants中已有55座達到zero waste-to-landfill，並於 2008 年達成zero waste to landfill且持續維持；公司也追蹤water／solvent use、推動energy conservation與supplier material standards。
2004年公司啟動全球safety-culture improvement programme，以 **“No One Gets Hurt”**為目標，並要求local leadership把safety goals納入annual operating plans。
2005年成立 Department for Compliance and Ethics，Board的Committee on Corporate Responsibility and Compliance定期接受updates。公司設有全球24／7匿名ethics hotline “The Network”，讓employees回報actual／suspected misconduct；另透過Business Conduct Manual與annual Corporate Responsibility Report對內外communicate CSR commitments。
本案顯示Goodyear試圖以company-wide standards與治理機制跨越national-regulation差異，把CSR嵌入manufacturing、supplier relations、employee safety與governance，而不是只做philanthropy。
