Your privacy is extremely important to us. This Privacy Policy describes how the My Search Insights Chrome extension handles your data.
1. Information We Access
My Search Insights only accesses the minimum necessary data required to provide its core functionality:
- Google Account Profile Information: We request access to your Google email address and basic profile details (via userinfo.email and userinfo.profile) to authenticate you and display your active profile in the extension's interface.
- Active Tab URL: We use the activeTab permission to read the URL of the webpage you are currently visiting so we can query Google Search Console statistics for that specific page.
- Google Search Console Data: We access your Google Search Console properties and search analytics data (via webmasters.readonly) to display metrics such as indexing status, clicks, impressions, CTR, average position, and top queries.
2. How Your Data is Used and Processed
- Local-Only Processing: All retrieved data (including account details and search metrics) is processed locally on your browser.
- No Third-Party Servers: My Search Insights does not own, run, or use any backend server. Your data goes directly from Google's APIs to your local browser.
- Local Storage Caching: We use Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local) to temporarily cache your Search Console statistics for up to 24 hours. This cache is saved strictly on your local device to reduce API usage and improve performance. You can clear this cache at any time by signing out of the extension.
3. Data Sharing and Transfer
- No Selling of Data: We do not sell, trade, rent, or lease your personal data or search analytics to anyone.
- No Data Sharing: Your data is never transferred or shared with third parties for any purpose, including advertising, tracking, or marketing.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
- All credentials and session data are stored locally in your browser.
- If you log out of the extension, all cached Google Search Console metrics and authentication credentials are instantly and permanently deleted from your local device storage.
5. Security
We use industry-standard security protocols:
- All communications with Google APIs are conducted securely over HTTPS.
- Authentication is handled via Google's official OAuth 2.0 protocol using Chrome's native Identity API, ensuring the extension never sees or handles your Google password.
