Hack Voca is an engaging English vocabulary textbook designed for Korean middle school students. To make learning experience more fun and effective, I led the art direction, and editorial design. Throughout the project, I collaborated closely with a project manager and an illustrator to bring the visual elements to life.
I had full ownership of the book’s visual identity—from concept to completion. Working independently as the lead designer, I identified the visual tone, page structure, and typographic system. I also facilitated regular feedback loops with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure the final product met both educational and creative goals.

To maintain confidentiality, only an overview of the design process is shared here.

The design is inspired by the classic Tetris game, using colourful Tetris blocks as a metaphor for piecing vocabulary together. The book title is built with pixel-style type to reflect the game’s retro aesthetic. Each of the 16 parts of speech is colour-coded using distinct Tetris blocks, providing a visually memorable way for students to categorise and retain words.
This playful concept enhances engagement while reinforcing memory through visual association.
