Wheat Rice is a tool software for learning English and Chinese vocabulary, which includes functions such as memorizing vocabulary, vocabulary sentence practice, etc. This project mainly focused on redesigning for the WeChat miniprogram side, which is an internal demand I personally put forward within the team.
User flow design,UX design,UX copywrite
Although the general goals were already in place, some feedback was first collected from users of Wheat Rice before starting the design. At the same time, research was also conducted on similar products such as Hundred Words, MoMo, No Back Words, FanBei, etc. The specific direction of the redesign was determined:
The original overall UI style was rough, with too many elements stacked on the page. In the new design, every page and element has been optimized and adjusted.

In the original product, the visual elements of most pages were linear icons and text. However, in some result and sharing pages, the use of illustrations can make the page more relatable and emphasize our brand concept. Therefore, in the new design, all the result and sharing page elements have been adjusted to increase the use of illustrations.

In the original product, the bottom tab is for categories, quizzes, word lessons, review, etc. The home page is the word page. The home page was the word page, and other data entrances were concentrated at the top or on the word cards, which made the whole product look messy and hard to understand. Therefore, in the new design, the bottom tab and the home page are reorganized, and the stacking of function entrances is reduced.

Comparison of the old and new versions of the bottom Tab:

In the new design, a main process, the Word Learning Challenge, is clearly defined for the frequency and purpose of the user's use of each function. All other functions are used as auxiliary, which can give users a clearer guidance.

In the new design, the concept of "challenge" has been added to the main flow of the word quiz. This allows users to clearly see the levels of each word book, enhancing the feeling of gameplay and motivation for upgrading.

In the "Wheat Rice" application, the "grain of wheat" represents the concept of points and learning experiences. However, the original product did not show it prominently on the page. In the new design, "grain of wheat" will be the main reward for challenges, and it will also be added as a reward in the check-in process.

The new design features several incentive modules such as Learning Ranking, Vocabulary, Punch Card, Badge, etc., all of which are enhanced to display data. The display and sharing of rankings is visually enhanced to motivate users to share and surpass their rankings.

The original quiz page was cluttered with content. Users also reported that they would like to see explanations immediately after the result of a question. Therefore, in the new design, we simplified the functions of the quiz page, and added a "dictionary" pop-up layer after the result of each question.

In the new design, the interaction and design of the "Speak" module in the word practice section have been adjusted to give users an overall understanding of the content they need to practice.

In the original design, the review module only allows you to take quizzes on words by list. In the new design, "Quiz" and "Word Practice" have been added to the review list, and clicking on a single word to enter it has turned it into a dictionary page. The purpose is to allow users to maximize the use of the "Review" module for all-around practice.

The biggest challenge of this project was not during the design process. Rather, after the design was delivered, the team deliberated and decided to put the project on hold for the time being and invest in other profitable business improvements.
