Join Nepal Economic Forum (NEF) in Driving Impactful Change
This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply AI and software skills to real policy and economic research at a leading Nepali development think tank. It is ideal for a computer or IT student or recent graduate who loves building things, learns quickly, and is curious about how data and technology can shape better decisions for Nepal.
About Nepal Economic Forum (NEF)
NEF is Nepal's premier economic policy and research organization. As a thought leader, we work on fostering policy discourse, building partnerships, and producing cutting-edge research that informs and influences decision-makers.
This is an opportunity to bring modern AI and digital tools into the heart of policy research, helping a team of economists and development researchers work faster, smarter, and more openly.
What You'll Do
As an AI & Technology Intern, you will help NEF use technology to strengthen our research. Your main focus will be:
✔ Use AI tools and large language models (such as Claude, ChatGPT, and others) to support our research and regular tasks, including research, summarization, translation, report formatting, and drafting support.
✔ Design simple AI-assisted workflows and automations that save the team time on repetitive tasks such as tracking, formatting, and data collection.
✔ Build simple, interactive dashboards and visualizations that make NEF's research and economic indicators easy to understand for policymakers, media, and the public.
✔ Develop and maintain basic web pages, microsites, and digital tools for NEF's publications, campaigns, and events.
✔ Support the team with collecting data from public sources and checking the quality of our website and published outputs.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is:
✔ Currently pursuing, or recently completed, a bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, information technology, software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, or related fields. Students in their final year or final semesters and fresh graduates are especially encouraged to apply.
✔ Genuinely interested in research, economics, public policy, or development, with the curiosity to understand the questions behind the data.
✔ Comfortable with at least some programming (for example Python, JavaScript, or SQL) and eager to keep learning new tools.
✔ Experienced, or quickly able to become experienced, with dashboard and visualization tools (such as Power BI, Tableau, Streamlit, Plotly, or similar) and with AI tools and prompt design.
✔ Able to explain technical work in plain language to colleagues who are not technical.
✔ Careful about accuracy, data quality, and responsible AI use, including checking AI outputs rather than trusting them blindly.
