Effective date: September 27, 2026

BookMemo helps you save passages from books. It does not require a BookMemo account and does not include advertising, analytics, or tracking tools.

Your library and iCloud

Books, passages, notes, tags, recognized page text, and app preferences are stored on your device. If iCloud sync is enabled, Apple CloudKit also stores your library in your private iCloud database so that it can appear on your devices. You can turn off iCloud sync in BookMemo Settings; the change takes effect after you restart the app. Turning off sync does not delete the library on your device or automatically remove data already stored in iCloud.

You can edit or delete library entries in the app. You can also export your library as Markdown, plain text, or PDF. Data you choose to export is handled by the destination you select when you share or save it.

BookMemo processes scanned pages on your device. A new scan saves the passage you select and the recognized page text, but not the scanned photo. Images from older captures may remain in an existing library and may be included in iCloud sync if it is enabled.

Book lookup

If you scan an ISBN barcode, BookMemo sends the ISBN directly from your device to Open Library to look up book details. A book cover may be downloaded from Open Library. Open Library may receive your IP address and other information normally sent with a network request. Its handling of those requests is governed by its own privacy practices. You can enter a book manually without using ISBN lookup.

Purchases and reminders

Apple processes the optional, one-time BookMemo Pro purchase through the App Store. BookMemo checks the purchase entitlement to unlock unlimited books. We do not receive your payment card details.

Daily passage reminders are local notifications on your device and are off until you enable them. You can turn them off in BookMemo Settings or iOS Settings.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy when BookMemo changes. The effective date above will be updated when a revised policy is published.
