Since 2022, SOLA Market has built a solidarity and circular economy rooted in art’s ability to preserve culture, sustain ourselves, and provide new paths for skill and innovation since 2022.
Now we are building one of New York State’s first public creative reuse centers! We bring you MAKESTREAM, creative reuse built for the global majority by the global majority.
Starting with two dedicated MAKESTREAM days across New York State this summer for Juneteenth + Black August in partnership with Shadowbanned Magazine, Goblin Party and Upstate Color. We will also have a special prop and vintage shop pop-up from LOOPS Recycling + Restoration
MAKESTREAM Day: Upstate, Saturday, August 29th, 12p-4:30p, Hudson Valley Seed Company (Accord, NY)
BUILDING MAKESTREAM
Our MAKESTREAM Days are foundational for the launch of our coming campaign, going live this fall, to build a creative reuse center and alternative art school based out of HexH0use, an art studio and community space. A 4,000 sq ft warehouse in East Williamsburg is a space for making, learning, celebration, & ceremony. HexH0use members explore unconventional computing, pleasure studies, cross-disciplinary research, and joyful exploration. In Upstate New York we are also excited to begin exploring and building the first creative reuse center for Hudson Valley artists and residents under the same mission to make art more accessible, sustainable, and equitable.
MAKESTREAM Days are an art market for artist, but an opportunity to learn more about creative reuse and cooperative economics in art production by bringing together local artists along the path of making and creative process. We are excited to unlock resources and materials, but skills and community through building MAKESTREAM. For this reason, we pair creative reuse with an alternative art school, school for transferable skills. school for transferable skills is a counter-academy of cultural preservation and intergenerational skill development as a for economic interdependence and workforce development.
This summer we are partnering with Headstream VC on piloting the ‘school of transferable skills’ with workshops provided to their youth co-creator collective. Workshops will cover ethical STEM, cultural preservation, and regenerative, where instructors and attendees will collaborate on a captsone project reflecting intergenerational creative innovation.
