if you’re reading this as you’ve joined izumi and co, firstly, welcome & congratulations! You’re in.

your primary point of contact at izumi and co until now would have been one of the partners. But we want you to know that every single one of us here are committed to making your first few weeks go as smooth as possible.

know that it’s perfectly normal to take time to understand a new work environment. You’re learning how to tackle a new job, meeting new co-workers, you’ve got a lot of new details thrown at you all of a sudden, and you’re doing all these things while joining remotely. We understand new workplace jitters because we were once there too.

we’re keen that your onboarding experience is as enjoyable as it is meaningful. Because we are a remote organisation, you will be meeting your new colleagues and team mates online. Our aim is to make your on-boarding process as good an experience as an in-person one would have been.

day 1

It’s your first day! We’re keen to not overwhelm you with information, names and processes today except with a little bit of paperwork that simply cannot be pushed for later. Our team will talk you through your banking information that needs filling up and activate your IDs across platforms, in case those aren’t already done.

the first day is about getting to know the company, your team mates, your team lead and everything you’ll do in the near future. take your time, soak it in, and ask as many questions as possible. we welcome questions, it can be as silly as “hey what day is it today?”

week 1

the first week of working at izumi and co should be focused on learning – learning how we work, learning how to work with everyone, about our clients & partners, the tools we use, the way we jam etc. new talent may or may not be actively contributing to work all week, but the expectation is primarily that you ask questions and get set up. so take your time during this week, meet as many new colleagues as you can and get to know our clients and work better.

we understand that it’s important to set reasonable expectations and be very supportive for as long as it takes for a new colleague to feel comfortable (this might be a week for some and a month for others). so, take your time and settle in.

timeline to becoming permanent

izumi and co follows a two-month compatibility period for all talent. it allows both us and you to determine if we are a good fit for each other. full permanent employee status takes effect once you’ve successfully completed this compatibility period. sometimes, this compatibility period may be extended to allow both sides a bit more time to adapt.

during your compatibility period

The team will conduct a formal check-in once a month during your compatibility period. You could use this time to cover topics such as:

we like to believe we have a thorough hiring process to ensure all of us know what we’re getting into. at the same time, no process is perfect and we believe that if either party thinks izumi and co isn’t the best fit for them during that particular moment in time, it's a failure of our hiring process, not the person we hired. let’s use this compatibility period to be sure that both the organisation’s and the individual’s expectations of each other match how we hoped it would when we set out.
