As the lead institution for Global Development Learning Network (GDLN) activities in the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) region, CARNET continues to actively contribute to shaping responsible and impactful use of artificial intelligence in education—through both strategic policy engagement and hands-on capacity building.
Project BRAIN Recognised as a European Good Practice
We are proud to share that Project BRAIN, coordinated by CARNET, has been highlighted as an example of good practice in a recent European report on Artificial Intelligence in School Education. The report recognises BRAIN for its comprehensive and systemic approach to introducing AI into primary and secondary education—combining policy alignment, educator empowerment, ethical considerations, and practical classroom implementation.
This recognition confirms the relevance of CARNET’s long-term investment in AI literacy and governance, and positions Croatia as a visible contributor to European and global discussions on the responsible use of AI in education. For GDLN partners in the ECA region, BRAIN represents a transferable model that bridges strategic frameworks with real-world educational practice.

From Strategy to Practice: Open Call for Educators
Building on this momentum, CARNET has launched a public call for primary and secondary school educators to participate in the next phase of Project BRAIN. Selected participants will take part in structured professional development activities, including workshops and collaborative learning sessions focused on the pedagogically sound, ethical, and safe use of AI tools in education.
These activities are designed to translate high-level policy insights into concrete classroom practice—empowering educators to critically assess AI technologies, integrate them responsibly into teaching and learning, and support students in developing AI-related competencies.
GDLN Perspective: Knowledge Sharing Across the ECA Region
Through its dual focus on policy-level recognition and practitioner-level capacity building, CARNET’s work within Project BRAIN exemplifies the GDLN approach to development learning: connecting evidence, expertise, and peer exchange across regions.
As GDLN lead for the ECA region, CARNET remains committed to sharing lessons learned, methodologies, and scalable models with partners across countries—supporting education systems in navigating AI transformation in an informed, ethical, and inclusive manner.
We look forward to continued collaboration with the GDLN community as we collectively advance responsible AI in education.
