Advancing Global Librarianship: Reflections from Chula Library in 2025 and the Road Ahead

In 2025, CU-GDLN reached another milestone with the successful launch of its Chula-Global Library Visiting Fellowship Program, hosted by the Office of Academic Resources (OAR), Chulalongkorn University. The program was highlighted by a joint project led by the fellowship awardee, Mr. Lukas Tschopp, Liaison Librarian at the University of Zurich Library. Conducted in June–July 2025, the project focused on “AI Literacy in Southeast Asian Academic Libraries.”

Through this collaboration, three impactful workshops were delivered, offering valuable insights into how scholars, lecturers, students, and library professionals within the Chulalongkorn University community are integrating AI tools into their work, research, and learning environments. The partnership also helped cultivate the groundwork for strengthening AI literacy across the university ecosystem, particularly in promoting ethical and responsible AI practices. This success marks another meaningful achievement in strengthening our international collaboration, professional networking, and cross-cultural engagement.

As we build on the momentum of this successful collaboration, the Fellowship Program continues to expand its focus and scholarly engagement. The 2026 round, which closed on December 31, 2025, maintained its emphasis on areas such as information science, digital preservation, Thai Studies, and Southeast Asian Studies. The program continues to welcome applicants from two main backgrounds: professionals in library and information science, and scholars with strong publication records in Thai or Southeast Asian Studies.

For the 2026 cycle, one fellow will be selected to join the OAR for a two-month residency beginning in May 2026, supported by a stipend of 230,000 THB. More than just a fellowship, this program offers an opportunity to contribute to the evolving landscape of global librarianship and engage in meaningful international exchange.

As 2025 ends, we look ahead to 2026 with excitement and confidence that our global partnerships will continue to foster meaningful knowledge exchange for years to come.
