Gotanenks Armor is an advanced, prototype weapon-system developed under Sun Jin Kaisara during the early rebellion era of the Sun Jin Empire. In its mature configuration it combines relic-grade ballistic protection, a spine-mounted neural interface (“Spinal System”), and a modular loadout of blades and psychic-guided “Dragon Fangs.”

Overview

In setting terms, Gotanenks Armor is less “just armor” and more a complete close-quarters dominance package: a protective shell built around a cognitive-control channel that lets the wearer deploy multiple weapons as if they were extensions of their body. Although it is broadly credited to Sun Jin Kaisara’s early war period against the Systems Alliance, much of its “advanced alien tech” feel is because the system is fundamentally derived from Nightfall Templar weapon technology - brought into the field and modernized through Kaisara’s close-quarters doctrine and sword-dancing fame. This origin is not public-facing knowledge; to most observers it reads as Kaisara’s personal prototype work rather than Nightfall-derived doctrine and hardware.

It later becomes inseparable from Forza Ninetails through the RD10-003 weapons program, and Forza’s compatibility is not incidental: Kaisara trained Forza directly, and his close-quarters sword-dancing style is effectively the same lineage the system was built around—making the full kit fit his combat style perfectly.

Origin and early deployment

Kaisara prototypes and field-tests the system back when the Sun Jin Empire is still functionally a rebellion rather than an established state. In this early configuration, Gotanenks is primarily armor—a ballistic/relic protection shell with none of the later “kit” features (no Dragon Fangs, no wrist-knife feeder, no auxiliary blade racks beyond Kaisara’s own carried weapons). Rio Narro sees Kaisara use it in the liberation battles on Bethany against the Systems Alliance, during the Liberation of Bethany, establishing Gotanenks as “real” on the battlefield before it ever becomes a formal military program.

As the rebellion transitions toward an empire, Kaisara donates the system to RD10-003 under the trust of Professor Denim, alongside her paired swords. The intent is refinement and attempted mass-production for Sun Jin forces. Unknown to Kaisara, Forza—whom she believes dead—becomes the primary live test subject for the Gotanenks development project.

Visual profile

The armor is described as futuristic body armor with a heavy “ritual-tech” silhouette: overlapping details, paired with very-heavy cloth elements that hang from the shoulders and back (cloak-like) and from the belt as a skirt-armor wrap (open in front, with a loincloth-style guard). The cloth functions as a secondary impact-buffer layer if the primary ballistic protection fails.

Ballistic protection and the relic constraint

The armor is described as capable of outright deflecting light-to-medium small-arms ballistic fire (with limits), with impacts ricocheting off an invisible shield and throwing “cascades of green sparks” (as seen in BT - Chapter 6). The working implication is that this effect is not merely “tough plating,” but a forcefield-like response generated by excessively rare relic material incorporating remains/fragments of Tanuki that Kaisara was able to obtain following his death.

This is also the core manufacturing bottleneck and the emotional constraint: the Tanuki-derived component is both non-industrial (cannot be scaled) and deeply sentimental to Sun Jin Kaisara. In theory, a system constructed entirely from Tanuki “scales” (or equivalent density of that material) would likely deflect far more than it currently can; in practice, the Gotanenks implementation only achieves reliable protection in the light–medium small-arms band.

Spinal System (neural interface)

At the core of the later weapon-system is the Spinal System: a cybernetic harness that runs the length of the spine, worn bare against skin/fur, with an upper interface that connects into the brainstem/neck via thin needles. It provides the control channel for the system’s “remote” weapons—most notably the Dragon Fangs—turning intent and focus into guidance and acceleration. (This subsystem is not part of the earliest “just armor” field version.)

In practice, the Dragon Fangs are the Spinal System’s most visible expression. To outside observers they appear to fly on their own—detaching without a visible throw, snapping into a hover near the wearer’s head/shoulder line, then accelerating with a high, animalistic screaming/whining sound from their maneuvering tech. In motion they leave a thin blue streak of light behind them, like a tracer that lags a split-second after the dart’s path. The “guidance” reads less like aiming and more like willpower being translated into trajectory:

“A Dragon Fang, a flying heavy dart, unlatched from my hip with a sound like a cracking knuckle, and flew up near the side of my cowled head and hovered with an animalistic ringing sound. I didn’t reach for it, didn’t aim, just wanted him down—and the thought alone sent it screaming after him. The impact traveled back through the Spinal System like a vibration in a wire. He went down hard.”

(Seen in nightmare use during BT - Chapter 6.)

For Forza specifically, the interface carries a practical constraint. When actively controlling multiple Dragon Fangs, Forza typically has to reduce movement to near-standstill to maintain precision and control. With only a single Fang in play, Forza can retain most situational awareness and continue moving/dodging as needed, but sustained heavy sword-fighting becomes effectively incompatible with complex multi-Fang control.

Wrist Throwing-Knife Feeder

Also integrated into the later kit is a low-profile wrist-mounted feeder system: a thin mechanism on the back of each wrist that stores an undefined quantity of throwing knives and, on demand, feeds a knife forward into the gap between Forza’s fingers when he flexes his wrist back. (This is not present in the early deployment configuration.) In use it reads as brutally efficient—hardware translating a micro-gesture into an immediate armed throw:
