I reviewed five banking apps, Revolut, Wise, Monzo, N26 and Bleap, against the three problem areas. Each app was checked against the same questions, so the answers can be compared side by side.
Method
- Apps: Revolut, Wise, Monzo, N26, Bleap
- Questions: 5 per problem area, plus 3 cross-cutting AI questions (18 in total)
- Framework: Observation → Pattern → User tension → Insight → Opportunity

Feature overload
Subscription creep
Incorrect categorisation
Summary
- Feature overload: Two models. Wise and N26 keep a small set of primary tasks and disclose the rest progressively. Revolut and Bleap show the wider product range upfront. Personalisation changes what users see, rarely how they move through the app.
- Subscription creep: Most apps detect recurring payments but show them passively, as a list. They support awareness after the charge, not a decision before it.
- Categorisation: Common merchants are categorised well. Ambiguous ones (food delivery, marketplaces) are not. Monzo has the clearest correction flow, but few apps show that a correction will be remembered.
