What is verbatim transcription?
In verbatim transcription, the goal is to capture everything that you hear, exactly as you hear it, meaning:
- All detailed verbal elements: stutters, repetitions, etc
- If requested, the most prominent non-verbal elements like human sounds ([cough]) and environmental sounds ([dog barking]). Avoid overusing non-verbal elements. Human sounds are attributed to the speaker who made them; environmental and group sounds go under the reserved Background label (see Section 15).
