• Rebounding is any attempt by a player to secure control of the ball following a try for goal.
  • During rebounding:
    • There is no player control
    • There is no team control
  • To establish a legal rebounding position, a player must not:
    • Displace, charge, or push an opponent
    • Extend shoulders, hips, knees, arms, or elbows to restrict movement
    • Bend the body unnaturally to hold or displace an opponent
    • Wrap or hook an opponent’s waist
    • Undercut an opponent
    • Clamp or hold an opponent’s arm to prevent jumping
    • Violate the principle of verticality
  • Key principle:
    • Every player is entitled to a spot on the court if they arrive first without illegal contact.
  • Officials should focus on:
    • Who established position first
    • Whether contact caused an advantage or disadvantage
    • Whether the contact hindered freedom of movement
    • Whether the contact affected the outcome of the play
