Meeting: Wednesday, September 2, 2026 · 12:00–1:00 PM ET
Facilitator: Kelly Chan / Saleem Abdulrasool
Audience: BCNY, Apple engineers, external community (open to all)
Forum: Swift Forums — Windows
Last call notes: Windows Workgroup — August 19, 2026
1. Welcome & Agenda (~2 min)
- Meeting structure; agendas emailed + posted in forum beforehand
- Agendas will now be posted to the forums earlier, with Kelly helping, so the wider community has more visibility
- Moving Follow Up and Status items to GitHub board review starting next call
- Tracking moves from local notes to a GitHub project board to assign owners, see in-flight items, and ping contributors easily
2. Open Forum: Community Issues (~10 min)
- Floor open for new issues
- No new community issues were captured in today's notes
3. Follow-Up: Open Action Items from August 19 (~5 min)
- Backtracer — Karl: run
swift-backtrace manually, post a ProcMon trace to the forum.
- Ran
swift-backtrace on the command line and usage printed as expected
- Console sample crash produced a backtrace, but Procmon showed the
swift-backtracer process never launched
- Ruled out the unhandled exception handler and confirmed the full trust manifest is set, so launch rights are likely not the cause
- Next step is a minimal reproducer with an empty window and a crash button, keeping packaging and installer identical
- Concurrency — Daniel: custom actor on a run loop + NWConnection.
- Still open, no confirmation yet on whether this approach holds
- ICU size — Izzy
- share Godbolt/forum post on compile-time ICU compression (MB → 238 KB); prefer
FoundationEssentials
- Izzy is working with Hannah to open-license the compile-time ICU compression work
- Alastair flagged separate Unicode data in the stdlib that could also be trimmed
- Build times — Mike: timing trace filed on GitHub (cc Saleem) + board? Ref: Quick Start doc
- No update in today's notes
- CAS — Mike: enabled (~20–30% faster)?
- Still an open question whether CAS helped build times enough to keep
- WASI low-spec — Terry
- No update in today's notes
- Izzy (Adobe) — #89241: fix for OLE merged, is there anything remaining?
- OLE auto-link fix is merged and Izzy confirmed it is resolved
- Carl — cross-post Charles's follow-ups to Slack
- No update in today's notes
- Alastair — DocC PR: first PR in re-review; Goal: ship DocC + re-enable SourceKit-LSP
- Alastair's PR is awaiting review, with many reviewers likely on holiday
- Saleem will rebuild Doxygen in CI so the changes land cleanly
