🌟 temporal artifacts are locations, items, etc, that manage to slip through the cracks of the cyclical reset and continue to exist, and appear in the next cycle.

finding a temporal artifact is an extremely rare occurrence, with few items, much rarer larger things like locations. however, places and items with a large significance in their world (whether it be religious, a common hotspot for people, or for just being generally powerful) are more likely to survive to the next cycle.

since these artifacts are displaced from their time, they often lack the power they originally had. at the very least, they commonly lack their normal powers due to being in a different cycle with different logic. this holds true especially for magic imbued items, since magic varies so drastically from cycle to cycle — sometimes not existing at all.

an example of this is a temporal artifact from luterius’s cycle, sundance’s sawed off shotgun (the item belonging to a well known gunslinger) becoming artifacts in the two succeeding cycles). the cycle was a vessel for sundance’s physical affinity in luterius’s cycle, but is a “normal” shotgun in the other cycles. (normal just as in not having any obvious otherworldly properties). they do tend to still have connections to their owners still, though.

even large locations have been able to break their cycles if they held a large enough significance to their people. another example is the afterlife’s structures, both being large cities with large significance in the world. of course, their properties were modified and these cities were imbued with a special power that made it possible to act as the hosts for all the souls in the world. although, no other locations have been able to repeat this, and raise up to the aether again (although locations have been found transplanted in cycles).
