Commercial Property Disaster Checklist
Post it and work it top to bottom. Protect people first, then limit the damage, then document before cleanup.
Be ready before anything happens
- Shut-off locations for water, power, and gas mapped, photographed, and labeled
- Your 24/7 restoration number saved in the on-call phone and written on this card, with the account or site ID dispatch will ask for
- Emergency contacts and an escalation tree: who calls, who decides, who documents
- Access and after-hours entry notes so crews are not held up at the door
- Insurance and claim contacts
- A QR code posted with this card that opens your building's Emergency Response Plan on a phone: [QR code to your plan]
During any loss
- Protect people, and call 911 if anyone is hurt or in danger
- Close the valve that controls the source, not the nearest valve you can see. On a multi-riser building those are rarely the same fitting. If no one on shift knows which riser feeds the space, say so on the call
- Photograph everything before anything is moved
- Call [Company Name] at [emergency number]
- Notify your decision-maker and start a log of what happened and when
During a specific loss
