This includes ensuring that strategic frameworks and Gender Action Plans explicitly recognize and allocate resources to women’s land rights as a prerequisite for achieving the Conventions’ objectives, as well as integrating women’s tenure security into indicators and reporting frameworks.
Through this Action Track, we continuously assess opportunities to influence and strengthen the Rio Conventions. This year presents a particularly important opportunity, as all three UN Conventions—the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)—are holding their Conferences of the Parties (COPs). These negotiations represent a critical moment to advance women’s land rights on the global agenda.
The Global Action Track leverages this opportunity through strategic and coordinated advocacy. Key activities include jointly analyzing COP agendas, identifying political allies, developing shared messages to ensure consistent communication, and organizing awareness-raising and advocacy events in the lead-up to and throughout the COPs.
