Before you invest in commercial, find out if your shop is built to win it
A RocketLevel self-check, backed by decades of experience in the trade. Commercial pays off for shops that have the discipline to run it. It goes badly for the ones hoping a system will fix the team. Answer these honestly, score yourself, and see where you stand. The score is yours. There is an option at the end to send it in if you want to be part of the benchmark we are building.
Take it right here. Ten questions, and your score and tier work themselves out.

How to score: give yourself 2 points for each "yes, consistently," 1 for "sometimes," 0 for "no." Add up your score out of 20. Be honest. An inflated score only hides the gaps you need to fix.

The ten questions
- Does one person clearly own commercial, not splitting attention with residential?
- Can that person or a rep attend in-person site visits and run a proper site walk, not just drop a card?
- Before your last three commercial meetings, did someone research the building and the decision maker beforehand, and did a written follow-up go out within 48 hours?
- On your last commercial job, could a reviewer who was never on site follow the file start to finish, moisture logs, daily notes, and photos, without calling you?
- Is your getting-paid process clean enough for net-30 and net-60 commercial terms?
- Are your credentials ready: current Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) certifications, a certificate of insurance (COI) at commercial limits you could email today, documented OSHA training, and an experience modification rate (EMR) under 1.0 on your current mod sheet? Score 2 if all four are current and you could produce the paperwork this afternoon. Score 1 if some but not all four are current, or if all four are current but you could not produce the paperwork this afternoon. Score 0 if none of the four is current, or if you could not say which ones are without going to find out.
- Do you follow up four to eight times before a meeting books, consistently?
- Do you understand commercial compounds over months, not weeks, and can you play the long game?
- Do you have the working capital to float commercial pay cycles without starving other jobs?
- In the last 90 days, have you spent money or hours on commercial with no job attached to it, on relationships, credentials, or market research?
